Entertaining the pilgrims
Every person you pass calls out: “Buen Camino!" Which translates as ‘good trip.’ It’s a really encouraging greeting and makes you feel like you are doing something special and worthwhile. “Buen Camino," we all call to each other.
I’m passing several hundred pilgrims a day and it gets more each day the closer I get to Santiago. It’s a greeting as old as the hills and dates back to medieval times. However, being serenaded by a musical local…that’s something new. Jose and his guitar entertained me on the way into town. It’s a wonderfully uplifting moment.
